Terms of use

Last updated: October 12, 2026

By using NameYear (nameyear.com) you agree to these terms. They’re short on purpose. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

Just for fun

NameYear is a free game for entertainment. Scores, streaks, birth-year estimates and name statistics are for fun and general interest. Don’t use them to make decisions about real people, such as guessing someone’s age for hiring, lending, housing or any other serious purpose.

Data provided as-is

Name statistics come from public U.S. Social Security Administration data, which has known gaps (see the Data page). We process it carefully, but we can’t promise every number, puzzle or estimate is complete or error-free.

No warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We may change, pause or stop any part of the site, including the daily puzzle, at any time. Your progress is stored in your browser, and it can be lost if your browser data is cleared.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the site, and our total liability for any claim is limited to US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • use challenge links or shared results to harass, threaten or embarrass anyone;
  • put other people’s private information into links you share publicly;
  • overload the site with automated requests, or try to break, probe or disrupt it;
  • copy the site wholesale or pass it off as your own.

Sharing your scores, screenshots and challenge links with friends is welcome. The underlying SSA data is public domain, so you’re free to use it directly from the sources we list.

Your challenge links

Names in a challenge link are chosen by whoever made the link. We don’t store them. A challenge only opens if every name in it appears in U.S. baby-name records, but you’re still responsible for what you share.

Ads and other sites

The site shows ads and links to other websites. We don’t control those sites or advertisers and aren’t responsible for their content or practices. Our Privacy policy explains how ads and analytics work here.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top. If you keep using the site after a change, that means you accept the new terms.
